How to apply for the Master's in Psychology from the University at Buffalo
Applications for Fall 2012 are now closed. Applications for Fall 2013 will be available in August.
Potential applicants to the mentored research track are welcome to contact department faculty to inquire about research opportunities before applying. A roster of department faculty accepting students for the mentored research program can be found here.
Applications to the Department of Psychology's Master's Program are accepted based on the recommendation of individual faculty. Only those applicants whose research interests match those of a specific faculty member who is willing to serve as the student's mentor will be accepted. If you wish to increase the competitiveness of your application, you should contact potential faculty mentors at the point of applying to the program.
Applications received by the deadline will receive a complete and prompt review. However, interested students are encouraged to contact the department at any time during the year.
We cannot consider applications without GRE scores; therefore, it is important that you plan to take the GREs early enough for scores to reach us by the application deadline. The GENERAL TEST IS REQUIRED; the subject test is optional.

Your application will not be considered complete and will not be reviewed until you have submitted:
- Graduate Record Examination test scores
- Institution code: R2925
- Department code: 2016
- A non-refundable $75.00 application fee
- Application fee may be paid online or by check or money order payable to "University at Buffalo"
- A statement of educational and career goals
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended other than the University at Buffalo, and
- Three letters of recommendation
- Letters of recommendation should be requested from three people who know your academic work or employment background. We suggest that you contact instructors or employers who know and will describe your unique qualities, especially relevant research experience and skills. Letters of recommendation can either be sumbitted online through the application system or sent as a hard copy to Graduate Admissions, Department of Psychology, Park Hall Room 210, University at Buffalo--The State University of New York, Buffalo, NY 14260-4110. Hard copies must be sealed and signed. If hard copies are in sealed envelopes, you may submit them as a package. We cannot accept photocopies of letters or of any application materials.

- Further requirements for International Students
- Regardless of financial ability, complete and return the Graduate Student Standard International Applicant Financial Form. International students are also encouraged to read the Special Instructions and Information for International Applicants which is attached and which will provide information on the amount of funds needed for your study and other necessary application information. You will need to provide all original financial documents with your application packet. Scans and copies will not be accepted.
- Send a photocopy of the biographical page of your passport to the department. A scanned copy attached to your online application is acceptable.
- If you are an international applicant applying from a non-English speaking country, you must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and arrange to have results of the test sent directly to the department. Information and arrangements to take the exam can be made by contacting the Educational Testing Service at:
http://www.ets.org.
We strongly recommend that you make test arrangements early in the year so sufficient time can be allowed for the results to be reported before our application deadline.
